2016 May 28 & 29 - 「連場好戲」 活動開幕典禮

To commemorate the 30th /20th Anniversary of Hong Kong Thoracic Society/ Hong Kong Lung Foundation, a mega-publicity event 「連場好戲」 was held on 28 and 29 May 2016 at the Olympic City. The opening ceremony was officiated by Dr Loletta So, Dr cheuk-yin Tam and honoured guests including Dr Wing-man Ko, JP, Secretary of Food and Health Bureau, Dr Constance Chan, JP, Director of health, Ms Vienna Lai, Secretary of Hong Kong Council of Smoking and Health, Dr Chi-chiu Leung, Consultant of Tuberculosis and Chest Service, Centre for Health Protection, popular singer Cheuk-lap Hung, and Ms. Jamie Wong, the silver-medal-winning cyclist in Asian Games.

A two-day carnival and exhibition follows. Pictorial story boards were set up to tell the public on the memorable history and achievements of our Society and the Foundation. The exhibition showcased advanced respiratory medical equipment like thin bronchovideoscope, electromagnetic navigational bronchoscopy (ENB), ECMO, CPAP/NIV machines and mechanical sputum clearance device. Besides hands on experience on the equipment, the public can play game booths to enhance their knowledge in COPD, asthma, and also assess their lung health by conducting a quadrilogy of spirometry, stepping test, hand grip strength test, and shortness of breath questionnaire.

A press conference was held on 29 May, Sunday. Dr Chung-ming Chu, Dr Arthur Lau and Dr Fanny Ko presented the latest local experience in employing ENB, non-invasive ventilation, ECMO and in pulmonary rehabilitation. A former patient who survived severe swine flu with ECMO support expressed her gratitude to respiratory doctors and the new technology. The event attracted broad media coverage and overwhelming public participation. It showed our past achievements and our on-going effort in promoting development of respiratory medicine in Hong Kong. The event was concluded with a great success.
